Adopt-A-Family Giving Tree Program
Norwich Human Services says Thank you!
The Adopt-a-Family Giving Tree Program was able to serve 120 families this year! Thanks to members of the Holy Friendship family we made a difference in the lives of several families. Thanks again to Cindy and Phil (Santa) organizing our efforts.
Here are stories from two of the 120 recipients:
A woman came in to pick up her gifts for her children. She was so excited and thankful to see each of her three children were receiving several gifts. She was then given the gift card to a grocery store from the sponsor. She began to cry at the ability to also buy groceries. She explained she never expected someone to think about the groceries and food she needed for the children.
A second woman came in to pick up toys for her child. When we asked her to pull up her car to the front of the building, she said she did not drive to the Senior Center. She rode two buses and then walked from the closest drop-off point to the Senior Center. She had a backpack ready to put the toys for her two children into the bag and walk back to the bus stop. To her surprise, there were two very large bags of clothes and toys for her children and a bike. As she had moved into the area only six months before, she had no way to get the gifts home. Arrangements were made to get her home with the toys. She explained how she came to this area for a job, but lost it because of COVID. While we were all wearing masks, you could hear in her voice, how happy and grateful she was. She reported there would not have been a Christmas this year for her children, had it not been for her sponsor.
There are so many stories to tell of people who appreciate what you did for them. THANK YOU. And may 2021 be a better year for all of us.
